The Chicago Teaching Fellows program is seeking a select group of outstanding professionals and recent college graduates to use their math skills to teach high school students in Chicago Public Schools’ (CPS) most challenged and underserved schools.


The problem: Last year on the ACT, a national college admissions examination, 11th and 12th grade CPS students on average scored 17.7 on the math ACT (66% of high school students across the country scored higher). Even more problematic: only 57% of Chicago Public School seniors graduated this past spring.


What is the solution to this problem? YOU are!! Share your passion for math and use your skills and talents to become a highly effective math teacher in Chicago!

 

Secondary math classes in Chicago Public Schools range from core subjects such as Algebra and Geometry to more advanced subjects like Calculus. Through the Chicago Teaching Fellows program, individuals with strong math skills have the opportunity to improve the quality of math education in Chicago.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (conferred by June 30, 2012)
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of a 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
    • Substitute teachers are eligible to apply
    • No teaching or education experience is required *


 

*Applicants who have taken 5 or more education courses or who are already certified teachers are not eligible to apply.
